Find Book Joy with Carolyn Polchinski, Ed.D.
Founder, Find Book Joy
www.findbookjoy.org

How does access to books—and the freedom to choose them—shape who children believe themselves to be as readers? Drawing from original research, this webinar explores how increased access and choice in book selection can transform reader identity development for children in economically disadvantaged communities. Based on interviews with literacy advocates and first- through fifth-grade program participants, the session centers children’s lived experiences and “book joy” narratives, offering powerful insights into how choice, ownership, and authentic representation influence confidence, motivation, and lifelong engagement with reading. Join us on March 19th to explore how access to inclusive, culturally affirming books that reflect the lives of children in the communities we serve helps nurture meaningful confidence and connection in young readers. Participants will gain practical takeaways for designing book access programs that truly elevate children’s voices and foster strong, joyful reader identities.

The National Book Access Association (NBAA) invites members and partners to join this Learning Series event. These Zoom-based sessions are designed to support connection, shared learning, and professional growth across the book access field.  Sessions are designed to be practical, informative, and relevant to organizations at all stages of growth. Time will be reserved for participant questions and discussion. This session will be recorded.

All sessions are free for members and will be hosted live on Zoom. For non-members, the cost is $25. If you haven't yet joined the NBAA, please click here to sign up and stay in touch.

The National Book Access Association is a Sponsored Program of First Book. Founded in Washington, D.C. in 1992, First Book is an award-winning nonprofit social enterprise dedicated to eliminating barriers to learning and inspiring young minds.
